Speech-Language Pathologist
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose individuals with communication disorders
  • Treat those with communication disorders
  • Communicate with individuals to determine their communication levels
  • Create treatment plans
  • Teach patients about communication and ways to improve
  • Teach other means of communication such as sign language
  • Help improve patients ability to read/write
  • Keep accurate records of patients
  • Work with other professionals
  • Help patients prevent communication disorders
  • Help patients strengthen the muscles that are used in swallowing
  • Offer counseling to both the patient and his/her family in order to learn how to cope with the situation
Salary: $74,550 per year
Educational Requirements: Master’s Degree, License
Demand for this career:  The demand from this career is 21% from 2014-2024 which is much faster than average

Reflection:  I would not like to become a Speech-Language Pathologist because the job doesn’t sound very interesting, you don’t make a lot of money, and it requires a master’s degree.
