Speech-Language Pathologist
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diagnose individuals with communication disorders
- Treat those with communication disorders
- Communicate with individuals to determine their communication levels
- Create treatment plans
- Teach patients about communication and ways to improve
- Teach other means of communication such as sign language
- Help improve patients ability to read/write
- Keep accurate records of patients
- Work with other professionals
- Help patients prevent communication disorders
- Help patients strengthen the muscles that are used in swallowing
- Offer counseling to both the patient and his/her family in order to learn how to cope with the situation
Salary: $74,550 per year
Educational Requirements: Master’s Degree, License
Demand for this career: The demand from this career is 21% from 2014-2024 which is much faster than average
Reflection: I would not like to become a Speech-Language Pathologist because the job doesn’t sound very interesting, you don’t make a lot of money, and it requires a master’s degree.
