“The reward for doing right is mostly an internal phenomenon: self-respect, dignity (self-worth), integrity, and self-esteem.”
-Dr. Laura Schlessinger

This is a long quote with a big meaning behind it. What this means is that when you do something right it raises your self-respect, self worth, integrity and self esteem. People who do the right thing should not expect a reward. They do what’s right because it makes you feel good. Doing the right thing helps raise your self-esteem and self worth because it makes you feel happy and it also makes you feel that you are worth something because of your action. Doing the right thing also increases your self-respect and integrity because you don’t have to choose to do the right thing, you could choose the wrong but that’ll lower your self-respect and integrity. Doing the right causes you to have more respect for yourself because of your actions. An example of this quote is a custodian that worked in an airport. The custodian found an ipad with $13,000 inside the case. He chose to do the right thing by handing it in to authorities to return it back to its owner. He returned and did not expect an award. He was rewarded by his boss and the person who lost their ipad. He didn’t chose to do the right thing for a reward. He choose to do the right thing because if he would have kept the ipad he would have felt happy at the moment but later on he would have felt guilty. Overall, I agree with this quote. When you do the right thing a lot of good things can happen to you. You also shouldn’t do the right thing and expect a reward. People who wish to increase their self worth and self esteem should always choose the right.
