Speech Pathologist
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate patient's’ level of speech
  • Diagnose and treat those who suffer from stutters
  • Help those whose speech is affected by emotional issues, learning disabilities etc
  • Provide therapy based on the needs of their patient
  • Assist patients who have been in accidents to relearn proper swallowing techniques
  • Teach patients ways on improving their voice
  • Develop and strengthen muscles used for swallowing Give counseling to patients on ways to cope with disorders that affect communication
  • Track treatment progress of their patient
  • Note any changes in the patient's disorder and treatment
  • Collaborate with other professionals
  • Determine how badly the disorder is affecting the patient by having the patient complete basic tests
  • Teach other ways to communicate such as sign language
Salary: $73,410 per year
Education: Master’s degree, A license is required
Demand for this profession: The expected job growth is 21% from 2014 to 2024 which is much faster than average
Reflection: I would not like to become a Speech Pathologist because the job doesn’t interest me.
