Memorial Day

Memorial day is an american holiday that is celebrated on the last monday of May. This year memorial day will occur at May, 30. Memorial day was originally known as Decoration Day but was later changed to memorial day. Memorial day is a day of remembering those who have died while serving the U.S. There are lots of towns and cities that claim to be the birthplace of memorial day. Waterloo, N.Y is officially considered the birthplace of memorial day. In 1873 New York was the only place to officially recognize memorial day as a holiday but later on in 1890 it was recognized by all the Northern States. A resolution was passed in 2000 which is known as the “National Moment of Remembrance.” This is when all Americans pause what they are doing for 1 minute at 3:00 p.m local time. This was made to honor those that have died fighting in any of the wars that have occurred. Memorial day was first observed in May 30, 1868 to honor those that died in the civil war. Memorial day is celebrated at the Arlington National Cemetery each year with a ceremony that involves placing flags on all the graves. A few ways you can show honor and respect on memorial day are attending parades, decorating your house with flags, thanking a veteran, visiting memorials and visiting cemeteries and placing flowers on graves. On memorial day I will have a moment of silence to honor those who have died fighting in a war.

“If i’ve got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.”
-Dan Dierdorf
This is a long quote that has a big meaning behind it. It can be separated into several parts. The first part talks about having correct goals. What this means is having goals of things that you can be proud of and goals that don’t involve choosing the wrong such as cheating on a test or robbing a bank or something. The second part talks about pursuing your goals the best way. What this means is working hard to reach your goals instead of being lazy and not working hard. In order to complete your goals you have to really work hard and dedicate time into completing your goal otherwise you won’t complete your goal. The third part of this quote is about doing the right thing. If you do the right thing by choosing the right you will not only live a better life, you will live a happier and more successful life. If you choose the wrong and do the wrong thing your life won’t be very successful. Overall I agree with this quote because you need to have goals that are worthy of pursuing, you need to dedicate time into completing that goal, and doing the right thing leads to a more successful life.

“The reward for doing right is mostly an internal phenomenon: self-respect, dignity (self-worth), integrity, and self-esteem.”
-Dr. Laura Schlessinger

This is a long quote with a big meaning behind it. What this means is that when you do something right it raises your self-respect, self worth, integrity and self esteem. People who do the right thing should not expect a reward. They do what’s right because it makes you feel good. Doing the right thing helps raise your self-esteem and self worth because it makes you feel happy and it also makes you feel that you are worth something because of your action. Doing the right thing also increases your self-respect and integrity because you don’t have to choose to do the right thing, you could choose the wrong but that’ll lower your self-respect and integrity. Doing the right causes you to have more respect for yourself because of your actions. An example of this quote is a custodian that worked in an airport. The custodian found an ipad with $13,000 inside the case. He chose to do the right thing by handing it in to authorities to return it back to its owner. He returned and did not expect an award. He was rewarded by his boss and the person who lost their ipad. He didn’t chose to do the right thing for a reward. He choose to do the right thing because if he would have kept the ipad he would have felt happy at the moment but later on he would have felt guilty. Overall, I agree with this quote. When you do the right thing a lot of good things can happen to you. You also shouldn’t do the right thing and expect a reward. People who wish to increase their self worth and self esteem should always choose the right.

Phillip Riggs' Four Success Tips
  1. Work Hard.
  2. Follow your passions. Do things you are interested in doing
  3. Don’t chase after money.
  4. Serve others. Do good things for others, and good things will come to you.
These are 4 tips that can help anyone succeed in life. The first tip is to work hard. You can’t be lazy, if you want to accomplish something you need to work hard in order to reach your goal. The second tip is following your passions and doing things that you are interested in. This is a good tip because if you do something you are interested in you will be enthusiastic. Being enthusiastic means that you will want to complete your goal. If someone is unenthusiastic at something they won’t really try or care. The third tip is don’t go chasing after money. Money isn’t everything, money can’t buy happiness, instead of chasing for money you should work hard to complete your goals. Life isn’t just about money. The last tip is do good things for others, and good things will come to you. This means that if you choose the right you will be rewarded for doing good things. What goes around comes around. If you do something bad for others than something bad will happen to you but if you do something good for others something good will happen to you. An example of this tip is helping the homeless by giving them food. Overall, I agree with these tips. These are great tips that can help others succeed in life.

"Nothing is ever gained in doing what's wrong."
-Wilford Woodruff
This is a short quote but it has a big meaning behind it. It means what it says. Nothing is gained in doing what's wrong. Doing the wrong thing won't ever give you anything. Doing the wrong thing might feel good for a few moments but later on you'll realize that what you have done is not right. It'll make you feel bad and nothing will be gained. Doing the right however gives you happiness. It leads to a better life. An example of doing something that is wrong is cheating on a test. You may feel happy for that moment but later on you will realize that you have chosen the wrong and you will gain nothing from it. Doing what's wrong is something that only people who choose the wrong do. If you want to lead a happier life you should choose the right as you will gain more from doing the right than choosing the wrong. Overall, I agree with the quote, nothing is gained from doing the wrong thing.
