Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving day is a day that is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. The first thanksgiving was in Plymouth rock in Massachusetts in 1621. Thanksgiving was celebrated by individual colonies and states. Until in 1863, Abraham Lincoln proclaimed thanksgiving as a national holiday that would be held in November every year. Thanksgiving lost much of its religious significance. Nearly 90 percent of Americans eat turkey on Thanksgiving. Some traditional food that people also eat on thanksgiving include pie, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. Beginning in the mid 20th century, the president of the united states begun to  pardon turkeys. This means that they are spared and are not slaughtered.
